Pitching continued to be the factor in the National League games played on Friday. The American League went gang busters relative to the NL, scoring 19 runs between the Astros, Jays, Royals and Rangers. Game 1 of the Cubs/Cards series went 4-0 to the NL Central Champions, although Lester rolled with Lackey into the eighth, trailing by just a run on the road. Former 51s stud and reigning NL Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom beat the Dodgers down 3-1, while giving zero fucks who the Dodgers are sending to the Cy Young runner-up presentation.
Saturday the better league for pitching will highlight their dominance with both ball games. At 2:37 pm local time, the Cubs will send Kyle Hendricks to the dirt hill to take on Jaime Garcia. Hendricks was 8-7 with a 3.95 ERA, while Garcia was 10-6 with a 2.43 earned run average.
The second game is the coastal matchup between the big markets. New York took game 1 from Kershaw in LA, and a victory in game 2 vs Greinke would pretty much kill any hope the Dodgers have at getting back to the World Series for the first time since 1988. First pitch between Greinke, 19-3 1.66 ERA, and VSP’s hero Thor Syndergaard, 9-7 3.24 ERA, is slated for 6:07 pm. Go 51s Go! Sorry Umberto.
