The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs will be featured in the 2016 Big League Weekend during Spring Training at Cashman Field. Making their 12th straight appearance in Las Vegas, the Cubs take on the Mets in a two-game series on Thurs 3/31 & Fri 4/1. Cashman Field has seen 16 sellouts over the previous 11 seasons when the Cubs come to town for Big League Weekend. This will be the third overall appearance in Vegas for the Mets, now coming back after having advanced to the World Series with a total of 11 players having graced their presence at Cashman Field as Triple-A’s Las Vegas 51s over the past summer.
The last time these two teams played each other was during the 2015 National League Championship series and we obviously know who won. These two teams played each other in the 2014 Big League Weekend two-game series which ended in a draw before sellout crowds.
“Big League Weekend has become an incredible tradition here in Las Vegas, and we’re very excited to have Major League Baseball back for the 26th year,” Rossi Ralenkotter, President/CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, said. “This year’s games are taking Big League Weekend to a new level by having a rematch of last year’s National League Championship Series. Having the Cubs battle the Mets for their final spring training games will be a great treat for the fans.”
