The New York Mets are stocked so deep at pitching, that Darin Gorski was named PCL Pitcher of the Week, and there is absolutely no reason to suspect that he will be moving up to the big club anytime soon, other than a spot start, if that. Just to be clear, Gorski is having a great season and has had an excellent week, striking out 11 batters over seven innings in two appearances. He struck out ten Tuesday in a start against Albuquerque, including five straight. He then made an appearance Saturday, striking out one in a spotless inning of relief.
Gorski also won Player of the Week in 2013 while he was with the Binghamton Mets in the Eastern League. Gorski is the third 51s’ pitcher to receive a weekly honor from the PCL this season, joining Noah Syndergaard and Duane Below. The last time Las Vegas had three Pitchers of the Week in one season was 2006 when Chad Billingsley, Aaron Sele, and Hong Chih-Kuo were honored.
