Matt Reynolds was a solid starting middle infielder for the Las Vegas 51s all year. While Syndergaard, Matz, and even Dilson Herrera got calls earlier in the season, Reynolds put together a solid year for the Mets triple a affiliate.
Reynolds was watching game 1 of the Dodgers/Mets series at the team complex in Florida with fellow 51 Logan Verrett, when a controversial slide involing New York shortstop Ruben Tejada, left the team down an infielder. After getting called up, Rey-Rey told reporters that Verrett looked at him after the controversial slide and said, “You’re headed to New York!”
There’s also a historical twist to the late season cup of coffee. If and when he gets into a game, Matt Reynolds will be the second player in MLB history to make his major league debut in the postseason.
You can follow 15 of your favorite former 51s as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday at 5:07 PM PST on TBS.
